a collection of MODERN silhouette portraits…
that bloomed out of the desire to pay tribute to an inheritance of my mother's beloved porcelain figurine collection. Each one is a fusion of my contemporary abstract paintings and portraits of these nostalgically traditional “dust collectors.”
Named "garden girls" for their grounding in my garden-like abstract paintings but also for their resemblance to what could be portraits of guests attending a fancy dress garden party. Unfortunately, the unavoidable and currently untreatable/incurable genetic condition of polycystic kidneys runs in my family. Most who have it are only mildly affected by this, except for my sister, whose symptoms of the disease are more acute. For this reason, I have chosen to donate profits from the sales of these two pieces to the PKD Foundation of Canada.

Grounded in my affinity for landscapes, these pieces paid homage to the realm of water. Raised by the expanse of the Great Lakes, I have long been drawn to the allure of smaller water bodies. Ponds, in their subdued elegance, exude a distinctive energy—a quiet yet potent force. They mirror tranquil moments by the water's edge, capturing the essence of serenity. TAKE A CLOSER LOOK
These pieces have a wonderful velvety texture about them. Thick body paint and medium are blended together to create a viscous matte paint that is layered on the wooden surface. One of my favourite things about this technique is the way it sometimes results in a collection of paint along the edges - making them ever so slightly imperfect.
When we give ourselves time to be still next to quiet waters we make space for reflected reveries.
