THE HEADING NORTH COLLECTION
Having made many pilgrimages from city-dwelling life at the edge of Lake Ontario, northwards alongside the backbone of the Niagara Escarpment to the shores of Georgian Bay, this collection is a tribute to the passing scenes of rural lowland beauty that unfolded before me on those trips.
These paintings are interpretations of the abstract landscape photos I created as we headed north over the years. Elements of field, barn, forest, river and bay blurred into shapes have then been further abstracted by memory. Using a signature blend of paint and medium to produce rich matte colours and fresco-like texture, layers have been added, subtracted and blended until each panel is thick with paint, edges rough, and the beauty of the scenes in my memory are once again revealed
